Antarctica has recorded its coldest winter since records began in 1957 with average temperatures of -61.1 ° C.
The previous record was -60.6 ° C in 1976.
According to a shocker Washington Post:
The cold was exceptional, even for the coldest location on the planet.
The average temperature at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station between April and September, a minimum cold of -78 degrees (minus -61 degrees Celsius), was the coldest recorded, dating back to 1957. 4.5 degrees lower than the most recent 30-year average.
Reasonably, the reason WaPo is surprised is that, according to the alarmist narrative, the polar caps are supposed to be warming and not cooling.
That may be why the authors of the report tried to disguise the bad news by starting it like this:
Amid a record hot summer in much of the northern hemisphere, besieged by devastating fires, floods and hurricanes, Antarctica was mired in deep freezing. This is usually the case during the winter months of the southernmost continent, but 2021 was different.
In other words, WaPo will only let its readers know that Antarctica has recorded its coldest winter once they have made sure the world is warming (and generally disastrous).
Later, the article goes on to explain to readers that “the planet and Antarctica are still warming.”
But this claim contradicts at least three scientific studies suggesting that Antarctica has a cooling trend.
